CSS Sprites: Tools And Tutorials
I first discovered sprites over 15 years ago while modifying PC game files. When I realized last year that sprites can be utilized in conjunction with CSS to optimize web pages my interest was rejuvenated in sprites. Although my primary use of the technique is to create custom rollover and hover states for form buttons, this article from Smashing Magazine revealed some advanced mapping methods.
